Daryl Hannah was arrested October 4th in Texas along with Eleanor Fairchild a 78-year-old great-grandmother and landowner that had been pushed and bullied by TransCanada to take her land by eminent domain. Fairchild said she never signed a land agreement with the pipeline company.

The protesters were charged with trespassing on private property and resisting arrest, while they stood in front of the heavy earth-moving machines. These can be considered property crimes for which police can arrest people if they so wish to. In the event, this happens defense lawyers will usually be needed before any further proceedings happen.

The arrests took place on Fairfield’s farm in the town of Winnsboro about 100 miles east of Dallas, while Hannah and Fairchild were protesting the construction of TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline.

According to a statement Fairchild made to the local newspaper “I don’t think there is an even playing field for the landowners and the pipeline company,” she told the Telegraph. “Most people can’t fight these big companies so they take what they want.”

Fairchild was given the opportunity to go home and avoid arrest, but she said “I am not a pro at protesting, but I think it makes more of a statement to be arrested,” she told the newspaper. “They need to know landowners like me are being trampled.”

The proposed pipeline will stretch from Alberta, Canada to Texas oil refineries on the coast. The pipeline is being called unsafe because it will be carrying acidic crude oil that would eventually result in spills and would contaminate the environment. In addition to supporting the transport and eventual burning of heavy tar-sands one of the most dirty types of crude oil that exists. The refining of which releases greenhouse gasses and cancer causing agents. In addition according to James Hansen who heads the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies those dirty Canadian deposits once burned “would contain twice the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by global oil use in our entire history.”.

Supporters of the pipeline, which include the Koch brothers give the impression that the pipelines will be used to create jobs and bring in more oil to the USA. Sadly the clear majority of the jobs will vanish after the pipeline is constructed (just like they did with the trans-Alaska pipeline) and the majority of the oil after it is refined will be put on oil tankers and shipped overseas to counties where the oil companies can get a better price for their oil.

Hannah has been quoted on TV interviews as saying “[The Keystone pipeline] is proposed to go all the way to the Gulf of Mexico through family farms, through ranches and over our most precious, fresh water aquifer that supplies water for 20 million people and for a third of the nation’s most rich farm lands and ranch lands.

“And it’s just not a wise thing, aside from the fact that the tar sands is just recognized as one of the world’s largest ecological atrocities.”

Daryl Hannah is well known for her Celebrity Activism and champion of the environment she’s been a high profile advocate for a more ethical relationship with each other and all life on the Planet.

Hannah was released from jail later that Thursday night on $2,500 bond. Being such a successful actress, she will unquestionably be able to afford to pay this bond. However, a lot of people who find themselves in her position simply don’t have the money available to be able to pay such a bond. This is where the services of bail bond companies come in handy. Mr Nice Guy Bail Bonds, for instance, can help to pay Santa Ana Bail Bonds and have you released from jail as quickly as possible.
