Balatonboglari Merlot 2011

Semi-sweet Merlot worth buying a case and even having it now and I would laying some down and having a bottle or two each year to see how it progresses. The wine is barrel aged and fairly sweet for a Merlot. This particular vintage has an extra smooth body with a finish that lovingly lingers on the tongue. It is a great stand-alone wine and might best be paired with fairly spicy food.

hungary_wine_regionsThe winery is located on the Southern shore of Lake Balaton.

Wine has been grown in the region since Roman times. The region was well known worldwide for producing late harvested Tokaji Aszú aka king of wines and the wine of kings. The Hungarian wine industry is quickly recovering some of its former wine glory.
