Brad Sherman is an Anti-Bitcoin Congressman?
A better Question is WHY is Rep. Brad Sherman Anti-Bitcoin or anti-Blockchain?
Brad Sherman (D-CA) is on record as saying at a US House Financial Services subcommittee during an overview of the cryptocurrency landscape:
“Cryptocurrencies are a crock”
“They allow a few dozen men in my district to sit in their pajamas all day and tell their wives they’re going to be millionaires.”
Sherman also said the cryptocurrency community by using the term ICO is like a “lie to the public and convey the image that is like an IPO.”
He goes on: “They stole the intellectual property and trademark of legitimate investing and applied it to a fixed, fraudulent gambling scheme of no social benefit”.
This is not unlike all the politicians that receive a lot of campaign funds or their regions make a lot of revenue from specific industries that vote in a manner that defy logic or against the general public good. Some meta examples include politicians representing regions that have: coal, oil or natural gas being very against competition from renewable energy (solar, wind, geothermal etc). They also typically vote against environmental, clean air/water regulations, increased fuel efficiency measures and electric car adoption etc.
According to OpenSecrets.org (Center for Responsive Politics) Brad Sherman’s largest contributor to his Campaign Fundraising for 2017-2018 was a company called Allied Wallet, which by the sound of it should be Pro-Crypto, but instead is a provider of e-commerce merchant services and online payment processing services, enabling businesses to accept credit cards and other payments on their websites in other words in direct competition to Bitcoin and many other Altcoin projects.
Other notable Brad Sherman Campaign contributors, which also may now have or will have in the near future Altcoin projects and/or blockchain competition include:
Credit Union National Association
Capital Group
Capital Group Companies
Decurion Corp
Charles Schwab Corp
Ernst & Young
PricewaterhouseCoopers
Mortgage Bankers Association
National Association of Realtors
Saban Capital Group
Data Exchange Corp
American Land Title Association
Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America
The bottom line: Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA) political views when it comes to bitcoin and blockchain technology seems to be overly influenced by his campaign contributors.
